How to Make a New Year's Eve 2026 Countdown Video With Your Own Song

New Year's Eve is December 31, 2026, and at midnight it brings in 2027. The New Year's Eve template makes a countdown video out of your own song: whatever its length, the countdown reaches midnight on the song's last moment, so the final frame of your export is the new year.

The countdown is your song

Most countdown videos are a clock with music laid over it. Here it is the other way round: the countdown runs to the end of the song you add, or to the end of the part you keep when you trim it. A three minute song gives a three minute countdown; trim it to its last sixty seconds and you have a final minute countdown. The last ten seconds are written one by one, and midnight writes your greeting.

To land it on the real midnight, start the video exactly as long before midnight as it runs: a video of 3 minutes 20 seconds started at 11:56:40 pm ends on the stroke of twelve.

The six looks

• Midnight Countdown: the countdown written in gold by a pen of light over a night skyline whose windows light with the music, the whole clock rewritten every eight bars, with fireworks bursting behind.
• Skyline Fireworks: a fireworks show over a city and its river. Rockets climb from the rooftops on the beat, the bass sends them higher, and each bursts in its own shape, a peony, a ring, a star, a willow or a crossette that splits, sized by its part of the spectrum. Every new section opens with a salvo.
• Confetti Drop: a faceted ball on a mast that steps down every two bars and reaches the foot at midnight, with rooftop cannons firing gold and silver confetti at every step.
• Champagne Bubbles: two champagne flutes traced in light against a city out of focus, poured each phrase, the bubbles rising with the music before the glasses clink. The calm one, for slower songs and for talk.
• Clock Face: a gilded clock drawn by a pen of light whose hands meet at twelve at the end of your song. Its sixty minute marks are a circular spectrum, and the gears behind the dial tick on every beat.
• Sparkler Writing: a sparkler writes your greeting across the night, letter by letter, once per section; the fresh strokes glow white hot and cool to gold.

Make it step by step

1. Open the New Year's Eve template, click through the looks, then press Use in Classic, or open Midnight Countdown straight in the editor.
2. Add your song, then trim it to the length you want the countdown to run. The audio is analysed on your device and never uploaded.
3. Type your Song Title and Artist Name in Text Overlay; to show different words on this visualizer only, use Override title and Override artist.
4. Write your Greeting: the words the sparkler writes and the words shown large at midnight. Left empty, midnight says Happy New Year.
5. Show density sets how many fireworks, confetti pieces, bubbles and sparks fill the night.
6. Choose 16:9 for YouTube or a party screen, or 9:16 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok, and export as MP4 or WebM, with no watermark and no account needed.

Tips

• Make a long version and a short one: the whole song for YouTube or the screen at a party, and its last thirty or sixty seconds in 9:16 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok on the night.
• Post it in December. On December 31 itself, the countdown people play is the one that is already up and shared.
• The palette is black, gold and silver throughout, and there is no full-frame flash at midnight, so the moment is bright without being hard on the eyes. The skyline is an invented city, not a real one, so the video suits a party anywhere.

The rest of the season

The 2026 season has four holiday templates, and each has a guide like this one. Making videos for more than one? Start with the earliest and work forward.

• Hanukkah (December 4 to 12, 2026): the Hanukkah Lights template and how to make its video.
• Christmas (December 25, 2026): the Christmas Lights template and how to make its video.
• Kwanzaa (December 26, 2026 to January 1, 2027): the Kwanzaa template and how to make its video.

Every look is on the New Year's Eve template page, and its guide lists every control with its range.
