Zodiac & Horoscopes: your star sign or Chinese zodiac animal, alive to your song

The Zodiac & Horoscopes visualizer draws all 24 signs of the Western and the Chinese zodiac in its own celestial line art: the 12 star signs from Aries to Pisces and the 12 animals of the Chinese years from the Rat to the Pig, with a horoscope card for fun.

Describes Sonic Weaver v6.10, released .

Both zodiacs in one visualizer

Choose a sign with the Sign control: on the template page, in Classic's look settings, in Studio's layer settings, on a Timeline clip's look, in the Layers tool, in Generate visualizer and on the Layer assets page. The picker groups the signs by zodiac (the Western signs, then the Chinese animals), and typing a name or another name for it ("the scales", "year of the dragon") finds it.

Every figure, glyph, wheel and card is drawn for this visualizer alone, in fine lines of light that move to the music: heads nod on the beat, tails sway with the bass, and water and dragons flow. The preview, the still and every export draw the same picture.

The Western zodiac

Each star sign with its dates, its element, its modality, its ruling planet and the constellation it is named for. The dates are approximate: the day the Sun enters a sign moves by a day from year to year, so a birthday on the edge of two signs may belong to either.

  • Aries, the ram: 21 March to 20 April. Fire, cardinal, ruled by Mars; the constellation Aries.
  • Taurus, the bull: 21 April to 21 May. Earth, fixed, ruled by Venus; the constellation Taurus.
  • Gemini, the twins: 22 May to 21 June. Air, mutable, ruled by Mercury; the constellation Gemini.
  • Cancer, the crab: 22 June to 23 July. Water, cardinal, ruled by the Moon; the constellation Cancer.
  • Leo, the lion: 24 July to 23 August. Fire, fixed, ruled by the Sun; the constellation Leo.
  • Virgo, the maiden: 24 August to 23 September. Earth, mutable, ruled by Mercury; the constellation Virgo.
  • Libra, the scales: 24 September to 23 October. Air, cardinal, ruled by Venus; the constellation Libra.
  • Scorpio, the scorpion: 24 October to 22 November. Water, fixed, ruled by Pluto (classically Mars); the constellation Scorpius.
  • Sagittarius, the archer: 23 November to 21 December. Fire, mutable, ruled by Jupiter; the constellation Sagittarius.
  • Capricorn, the sea-goat: 22 December to 20 January. Earth, cardinal, ruled by Saturn; the constellation Capricornus.
  • Aquarius, the water-bearer: 21 January to 19 February. Air, fixed, ruled by Uranus (classically Saturn); the constellation Aquarius.
  • Pisces, the fish: 20 February to 20 March. Water, mutable, ruled by Neptune (classically Jupiter); the constellation Pisces.

The Chinese zodiac

Each animal of the twelve-year cycle with its Earthly Branch, its own element, its yin or yang, and its years. The years are worked out from the sixty-year cycle, which pairs each animal with one of five elements in turn. A Chinese zodiac year begins at Lunar New Year (late January to mid February), not on 1 January, so a birthday in January or early February belongs to the year before.

  • Rat: the Earthly Branch zǐ, water, yang. Its years since 1984: 1984 (Wood Rat), 1996 (Fire Rat), 2008 (Earth Rat), 2020 (Metal Rat) and 2032 (Water Rat).
  • Ox: the Earthly Branch chǒu, earth, yin. Its years since 1984: 1985 (Wood Ox), 1997 (Fire Ox), 2009 (Earth Ox), 2021 (Metal Ox) and 2033 (Water Ox).
  • Tiger: the Earthly Branch yín, wood, yang. Its years since 1984: 1986 (Fire Tiger), 1998 (Earth Tiger), 2010 (Metal Tiger), 2022 (Water Tiger) and 2034 (Wood Tiger).
  • Rabbit: the Earthly Branch mǎo, wood, yin. Its years since 1984: 1987 (Fire Rabbit), 1999 (Earth Rabbit), 2011 (Metal Rabbit), 2023 (Water Rabbit) and 2035 (Wood Rabbit).
  • Dragon: the Earthly Branch chén, earth, yang. Its years since 1984: 1988 (Earth Dragon), 2000 (Metal Dragon), 2012 (Water Dragon), 2024 (Wood Dragon) and 2036 (Fire Dragon).
  • Snake: the Earthly Branch sì, fire, yin. Its years since 1984: 1989 (Earth Snake), 2001 (Metal Snake), 2013 (Water Snake), 2025 (Wood Snake) and 2037 (Fire Snake).
  • Horse: the Earthly Branch wǔ, fire, yang. Its years since 1984: 1990 (Metal Horse), 2002 (Water Horse), 2014 (Wood Horse), 2026 (Fire Horse) and 2038 (Earth Horse).
  • Goat: the Earthly Branch wèi, earth, yin. Its years since 1984: 1991 (Metal Goat), 2003 (Water Goat), 2015 (Wood Goat), 2027 (Fire Goat) and 2039 (Earth Goat).
  • Monkey: the Earthly Branch shēn, metal, yang. Its years since 1984: 1992 (Water Monkey), 2004 (Wood Monkey), 2016 (Fire Monkey), 2028 (Earth Monkey) and 2040 (Metal Monkey).
  • Rooster: the Earthly Branch yǒu, metal, yin. Its years since 1984: 1993 (Water Rooster), 2005 (Wood Rooster), 2017 (Fire Rooster), 2029 (Earth Rooster) and 2041 (Metal Rooster).

6 looks for every sign

Every look works for every sign of both zodiacs:

  • Starlight: The sign in starlight: a night sky and the Milky Way, the sign's glyph (or a Chinese sign's animal) traced in stars inside a ring of stars a light runs round once a bar, the stars twinkling with the high notes and a shooting star once a loop.
  • Element Sky: The sign's figure in its element's colours, in a sky made of its element: embers and flames for fire, ridges for earth, wind for air, waves for water, growing stems for wood, turning rings for metal. It nods on the beat and its tail sways with the bass.
  • Zodiac Wheel: The zodiac wheel in brass: the twelve signs of its zodiac round a dial that rests on yours, turns once round each loop and lands on it again, a rete turning inside with a star for each band of the music and the sign's figure at the hub.
  • Horoscope Card: A horoscope card for the sign: its figure in a gold medallion, its dates or years, its element and ruler, and a line for fun (or your own words), a foil shine crossing the card once a bar.
  • Neon Sign: The sign's figure as a neon sign on a brick wall: the tubes light one by one at the top of each loop and hum with the beat, the sign's name glowing in neon script below.
  • Your Sign: A birthday card for your sign: a garland of star lights chasing the beat, confetti of little stars, the figure bouncing on the beat and your greeting.

Horoscope cards, for fun

The Horoscope Card prints a short line for the sign, written for this site to be played with: a nudge to do something with the music, never a prediction, and the card says it is for fun. Variation picks another of the sign's lines (the same number always gives the same line), and Your message puts your own words on the card instead. Your Sign, the birthday card, prints your message as its greeting.

Actions on the song

In Classic's and Studio's Actions, on a Timeline clip's look and on a zodiac layer in Generate visualizer, choose what the sign does and when: at a time, on a beat, on a bar, on a phrase, on the drop and every loop. Between your moments, choose "Its own shooting star once a loop too" or "Only on my moments".

A shooting star needs a sky, so the Neon Sign only shines. Every action is worked out from the song's own beats, bars and drops, so the preview and every export show it at the same moment.

  • Shine: The sign flares in full light: its figure, its stars and its glow, as on the biggest beat.
  • Shooting star: A shooting star crosses the sky.

Every setting, by name

Beside the colours, speed, glow and the settings every look has, the visualizer has its own, labelled the same in every editor, and SW Agent can set each one by its name:

  • Sign: Which sign the scene is about, from the Western zodiac (Aries to Pisces) or the Chinese zodiac (Rat to Pig): its figure, its glyph, its element's colours and its facts.
  • Colours: The sign's element's colours (fire, earth, air, water, wood or metal), leaning a little to your colour picks, or your colour picks as they are. Choose Its element or Your picks.
  • Figure motion: How much the figure moves with the music: heads nodding on the beat, tails swaying with the bass, legs stepping on the bar, water and dragons flowing. From 0 to 2.
  • Figure size: How big the figure, the wheel or the card is in the frame. From 0.6 to 1.4.
  • Stars: How many stars, embers, bubbles or confetti fill the scene. From 0.2 to 2.
  • Loop length: Seconds before the scene repeats exactly: the wheel's turn, the shooting star, the twinkling and the drifting all come round, so a clip loops without a seam. From 4 to 16.
  • Variation: Another take: where the stars are, and which line for fun the Horoscope Card shows. The same number always gives the same scene. From 0 to 99.
  • Your message: Your own words on the card: the line under the sign on the Horoscope Card (instead of a line for fun), the greeting on Your Sign. Empty uses the card's own.

Where it plays

Layer assets and the Layers tool offer each look's own layers (the sky, the ring or the wheel, the sign's figure, its stars, the card and its words, the neon and the garland) on their own, each named for the sign it draws, to add to any project. Motion graphics has every look as a design to customize; Generate visualizer can put a sign over your picture with its Sign and scene settings; the Stream studio has it in its rotation; and a music video puts it on screen when your words ask for the zodiac, a horoscope or a star sign.

Ask SW Agent

Ask for a sign by its name or, for the Chinese zodiac, by its year: "make a zodiac visualizer for Leo", "a Scorpio horoscope card", "year of the dragon" or "a Chinese zodiac video for the year of the snake", and SW Agent builds the project with that sign already chosen. A name on its own, such as "a lion visualizer" or "a dragon visualizer", still opens our lion or our dragon of myth; say the sign or the year to get the zodiac.

In an open project, say "switch the sign to Aries", "switch the sign to the year of the rabbit" or "make the figure bigger", or ask SW Agent to apply the zodiac look with a sign; each change is one step of undo in Classic and in Studio. Direct the scene the same way: "make the sign shine on the drop" or "a shooting star at 0:30" shows you the actions first and changes the project when you apply them.

From another AI assistant

Through our MCP server, get_engine lists every sign grouped by zodiac, and build_editor_setup opens Classic or Studio on any of them (its signId, by id or by name), with its actions in words too (sceneActions: "shine on every drop"). A link with ?sign= on the editor's address opens the look on that sign too.
